Wire truck arrives - and NO the big rolls
on the back are not for us :)) |
Under a dark and stormy sky the truck arrived at the Village Square. The truck was not able to make it up the narrow ramp to the roof top parking. We wondered down to meet it on Marine Drive where it managed to pull sideways across three parkings in the narrow lane. A funny feeling of being nervous and excited suddenly came over me. This is it - this is the beginning of what we have been talking about since March. This delivery makes it real - we are building a LIFE SIZE wire rhino !!
Farayi - getting the wire from A to B |
Wire trolley lift off....
Looking at all the wire after loading it into a shopping trolley, it did not look like much. Still it weighed well over 50kgs and had to be pushed back to the studio and of course UP THE RAMP. Non of us really gave this any thought until Farayi suddenly took off at a rate of knots heading for the ramp. The look in his eyes shows the moment he realised that he had it all in perfect harmony - and with seemingly no effort he flew up the ramp.
Laughter all day |
Laughter is the best medicine.....
We laughed a lot that day. A little nervous and a lot of excitement. This is a project that means a lot to us. Watching the senseless slaughter of rhino all over the country has touched us deeply. This is OUR collective heritage being destroyed. The ruthless and cruel ways used to get the horns has given me sleepless nights. This project is bigger than us, it is not about money or fame, it is simply the one way we know to get involved - using the God given skills we have to add our voices in outcry in the hope of creating awareness and in a small way contribute.
